The company was founded on helping clients by improving levels of safety, as well as improving end users' preventative maintenance programs.

We believe that manufacturing companies are the corner stone of our way of life in North America. After university and college Bill has spent the last twelve years working in the material handling equipment (MHE) industry helping manufacturers solve problem, learn about their equipment and developing lean maintenance strategies for clients.

Bill currently has over twelve years of experience within the overhead crane industry. He has worked for one of world’s largest international overhead crane manufacturing and servicing companies. He has traveled throughout North America to different crane manufacturing plants and has worked closely with other consultants in the business. Along the way he has accumulated a wide range of knowledge and efficiency methods to help companies who own, use and maintain overhead cranes and hoists.

The Story of Why He Created MHEControl™

Bill Created MHEControl™ to help end users manage their own equipment better rather than the organizations that preform maintenance services, thus giving greater control to the companies and people who own the equipment.  There is a real benefit for end users to keep track and manage their information related to maintenance and their equipment.  The whole adage: "Information is Power" does hold true.  With the information end users can improve their operations by improving and increasing safety, track the frequency of how often repairs and parts are needed and with the information can make better decisions and as a result save money.

Customers Demanded Answers

During Bill's involvement with crane maintenance programs while he worked for crane service providers many of his customers at the time demanded answers from the companies he worked for such as:

  Why I am spending so much on maintenance? 
  Why does it seem like I always being invoiced for something?
  Why are we always having equipment break downs?
  Why are the equipment defects occuring? 

These are a few of many critical and important questions end users want to know answers for and at times very upset over.

The Solution for Customers

Bill's idea was to create some reports for customers once a year showing them where the money was going and why and more importantly how to prevent such things as over spending on all types of maintenance and parts for the equipment.

Bill had created a systematic approach for customers and created forecasting models to not only reduce maintenance costs but improving equipment efficiency. As equipment efficiency increased meaning less break downs and other repairs the level of equipment safety also increased.  Equipment efficiency and safety are tied together when in comes to maintenance optimization strategies.

Customers' Reactions


Through Bill's dedicated hardwork and commitment to his customers he was able to deliver the results customers expected.  In the beginning he completed annual reports for only a few customers as an experiment and to his surprise later found out that their were many similar trends, patterns and occurances from one customer to the next no matter what the customer's type of business was or how many pieces of equipment they had or the make and model of each unit.

Bottom line: Results! 

1.  Customers were very happy with the results.
2.  Customers were happy spending more time using the equipment then worrying about the breakages or the costs
3.  Less break downs were occurring as a result
4.  Since customers were billed for maintenance by the hour, less hours were being billed to the customer
5.  Bill's customers spread the word to other companies of unique approach to material handling equipment maintenance strategies.

Bill Hallett's Maintenance Optimization Success

As result of reducing maintenance and costs for customers Bill at the time had increased the amount of his customers by 25% per year and became top sales consultant in Canada for one of the crane service companies he representated at the time in 2001 and 2002 basded on other customers wanting to increase safety and save money on their equipment.

Reaction by Maintenance Service Providers  

The company he worked for did not like the fact Bill was able to reduce the amount of service hours billed from the company he was working and did not like the fact the end users equipment needed less part replacements as well.  The company officials that managed Bill eventually made life difficult to the point at which Bill had no choice but to leave the company and Bill's system that he had developed was instantlly dissolved.

Crane Maintenance Service providers do not like the idea of less maintenance.  Remember 80% of their business is based on billable maintenance hours 15% is parts and components and 5% is new equipment.

MHEControl™ Was Born

Bill remembers one of the visits to his customers office during a meeting where he presented the reports and gave Bill a fantastic idea.  

            The customer said:  

         "Bill we like the work you do and find the reports very helpful and useful, however we would like to have the reports all the time.  Is there anyway you could put them on the Internet for us to see?"

        
Bill thought the idea his customer had was brilliant and after many years of work, learning new computer programming technologies and understanding difficult programming languages, databases and reporting tools Bill was successful once again in creating MHEControl™ a maintenance optimization system for end users to "Increase safety while saving money."
